Web Wise Business – websites scotland (and beyond)

When did you first use a website in Scotland
I wish I had a better memory. I remember the IT guy at NCR in Dundee, Scotland, saying we’ve now got access to the World Wide Web – but I can’t remember the year. At the risk of sounding like a bit of a fool – I had no idea what on earth he was talking about. But when I saw it I got it.
Bear in mind that this was at a time when 1 PC per desk was not common – though to be fair NCR were nearly there. Once connected up – through one particular machine – it opened up a whole new world of ….. well not a lot really other than a huge potential. At the time it didn’t seem to do that much and you needed to know this big long string of text to get to where you wanted and you had to put a strange serious of letters and punctuation in front of the string.
Potential seemed huge – but I would never have guessed of where the internet is now and the zillions of websites it created 20 years (or more?) on. I’d never have guessed we would have a business in Scotland developing websites. Wish I had a better memory and a better ability to look into the future.
