DotNetNuke – BSD – threat or benefit?
I think the BSD license used by DotNetNuke is a gift from the ancients. It has allowed our DNN developers to carry out DotNetNuke development projects that have made huge projects available to our clients in a fraction of the time and cost otherwise. But is that a good thing?
A wee while ago we use to quote tens of thousands of pounds for projects that we can now deliver for sub 10k. Good news for the client but it makes the sales side a lot harder…. or does it?
Prospect conversions are now quicker as the budgets are now in line with the costs so I think in balance we are happier. We get to work with a broader and more diverse range of clients and that cheers us up – we get to find out new things all the time – which in itself is a blessing.
So BSD? Benefit! A benefit for our clients for definite – but for us as well as it keeps the interest up.
DotNetNuke or Joomla – a surprising answer
We had a pretty sensible discussion with a client recently – they had been deliberating on whether Joomla or DotNetNuke was the correct CMS platform for them. Having a team of DNN Developers and having been involved in DotNetNuke development for a good long time I think the client was surprised with the answer we gave….
“We’re DNN developers for the simple reason that out background is on Microsoft .Net platforms so for us we’d be daft not to. “
With any web development the technology is important but so are the people – you can make most technology do most things and when it comes to DNN our DNN developers can really make it fly. As for Joomla I’m sure its great – we simply haven’t gotten around to using it any anger yet. Maybe that day will come – but for now DNN delivers great results for us and our clients.
